Based on a sample of manufacturing firms surveyd by the FED, the seasonally adjusted diffusion index for company outlook (share of CEOs seeing a future improvement minus share reporting a worsening) stood at 28.7 in July 2026, compared to 28.5 in June 2026.
Sample. There are 266 records in the monthly time series shown in the figure above. The series covers the period extending from June 2004 to July 2026.
History. Have a look at a few statistics we calculated on the entire sample: the diffusion index had an average value of 18.3; it recorded its highest level of 60.4 in November 2004; it recorded a minimum of -41.2 in April 2020.
